Still Alive

Yes, I am alive. This new job has me busy running the rat race, but I love it. I'm really liking it.

Chicago was awesome. Everytime I go up there, it is beyond obvious that I am from, and I quote, "down south." I think Bree and I were purposefully making sure our "accents" were heard.

I didn't buy a single drink...actually, I didn't pay for much of anything.

I'll try to fill ya'll in sometime about whats up. But for now, hearing that I am alive and smiling will have to sustain you till this weekend. I am just too damn busy and tired to put up a good post.

Hey! Im glad you posted! I stopped by to see if you were still alive and kicking. Thought maybe you met the millionaire man of your dreams and stayed in Chicago abandoning your blogger friends (you wish, right?) well, I would forgive you for something like that :)

Ill be waiting for details..

Was wondering if I needed to change my brand of shampoo or something ... :)

That accent thing. I remember hearing a well-respected professional colleague speak for the first time at a scientific meeting. I was your age. Edison was still messing around with light bulbs. After he got off the podium, I turned to a mentor (I was still a student) who had himself been a student of this professor, and said "Well, that was some drawl. Where's he from? Texas?"

Answer came back: "Illinois".

I went around in shock for the rest of the week. :)

You can tell me perhaps another thing about southern Illinois. I read in a Civil War history that southerners in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio all had nicknames. I had heard about Ohio Buckeyes and Indiana Hoosiers, but I had never heard the nickname of southern Illinoisians before.

Wonder why ...?

Glad to hear you had a good time! When I go to FL, I make sure to make my Cali accent be heard loud and clear... and I use words like "stoked" and "bummer" a lot (well, no more than I usually do, being a surfer and all).

Glad you are alive, and the smile is definitely a wonderful bonus ;)
